Parliament has chosen Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko to compete in the inaugural Democracy Cup, which was established to honor the legislature's 30th anniversary.

Members of Parliament will face off against former Black Stars players in a curtain-raiser match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, July 5, 2024.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin revealed in Parliament that the victor of the Hearts vs. Kotoko match would play in Washington, D.C. United, a team headquartered in the United States.

The Parliament commemorated its 30th anniversary of founding in 1993 last year.

This came when the nation reverted to a democratic government and the 1992 Constitution went into effect.

As a result of this parliament's good works, some partners and stakeholders decided to support us in our endeavors and suggested that we establish what they call the Democracy Cup, which would add some flair to the commemoration of the Fourth Republic's 30th anniversary of the 1992 constitution. Rt. Hon. Bagbin stated as much.

In addition, there will be games, peaceful walks, and parliamentary sessions and discussions to mark the event.
