A run of bad performances by the Porcupine Warriors has been evident, especially in the second half of the current 2023–24 Ghana Premier League season.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was forced to have a meeting with the technical team and playing body as a result of their subpar performances.
Despite their three wins and one tie in their previous four games, Ahinful thinks the team's subpar play is due to a dearth of talented players.
"You see a player and you question where he is coming from, and when I performed some background checks on the players, I realized some are second division players. Which team was he a member of before joining Kotoko? When you perform the checks, you find that he was potentially playing for a first- or second-division team.
"Yes, without a doubt. I can confirm that there are players on the Asante Kotoko lineup that aren't meant to be there. Because I'm a tech, I can say that. In an interview with LUV FM, he stated, "Because Kotoko is Kotoko, and from what I've seen, some of the players do not deserve to play for the club."

We must remember that Asante Kotoko is a different kind of Kotoko and that not every talented player you see in Bechem or other locations can succeed there.
"If Asante Kotoko is supposed to be playing in an African Continental competition, would they be playing with these players?" asked Ahinful, expressing uncertainty that Kotoko would field these players in a continental competition. Although we don't want to hear the truth, we won't succeed until we accept reality.
Ahinful also accused Hearts of Oak and Kotoko of failing to sufficiently develop young players coming out of their academies.
"Why can't Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have a very good feeder team that, when players are mature enough, they push them into their first team?" he asked, referring to Dreams FC's feeder club that develops players for its first team.
"And because these young players have learned the Asante Kotoko method, immediately they will adapt."
With 40 points, Asante Kotoko is currently ranked 10th in the Premier League standings. On Matchday 30, they will play Berekum Chelsea at Golden City Park.
