Frederick Asare is the only home-based keeper included in Ghana’s squad for Mali, and CAR games.

Frederick Asare

The lone domestic player included in Ghana's 26-man roster for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches, which take place next month, is goalkeeper Frederick Asare of Asante Kotoko.

The goalkeeper's stellar performance with the Porcupine Warriors in the Ghana Premier League has earned him a second invitation to the Black Stars.

Asare has demonstrated flashes of strong play in the local scene, and as a result, he has been called up despite the club's patchy results.

Asare will have competition from Jojo Wollacot, who works for Hibernian in Scotland, and Lawrence Ati-Zigi of St Gallen.

Notable athletes on the team include Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, and Ernest Nuamah.

Thomas Partey of Arsenal, Kamaldeen Sulemana of Southampton, and Alexander Djiku of Fenerbache have all rejoined the squad.

For the two important assignments, captain Andre Ayew has been left off the squad.

At Legon's University of Ghana Stadium on Thursday, Ghana will kick off their training camp.

The Black Stars' next match is against Mali on June 6 at Stade 26 Mars in Bamako. On June 10, they play the Central Africa Republic at Baba Yara Stadium.

The dominant team from West Africa will be looking to win both matches after a disorganized start to the qualifying round the previous year.

The Black Stars had a victory and a loss to start the qualifying round. They defeated Madagascar 1-0 before losing to Comoros by a close margin. Ghana is now in fourth place in Group I, one game ahead of the third and fourth.
