Garcia's past several weeks have been somewhat turbulent. His actions in the weeks before his April 20 battle for the WBC world super lightweight title against Devin Haney raised concerns about his mental health.
Despite admitting to smoking and drinking during camp, he was unable to meet the weight requirements the weekend of the bout and even indulged in a beer during the formal weigh-in.
On fight night, the well-liked King Ry demonstrated that he was focused on winning and gave a fantastic performance, taking down Haney three times with his renownedly quick and powerful lead-left hook.
The Cobra voiced his frustration with Garcia's shortcomings in an interview with his own podcast, Froch on Fighting.
"Well, Garcia failing his drug test before his fight with Devin Haney is a major deal. How fierce that conflict was. Garcia performed the work, which made me quite proud of him. Nobody anticipated that he would follow through on his promise.
Vegas apparently lost a lot of money when Garcia beat up Haney, who was the clear favorite. Although Haney's boxing prowess was occasionally winning him rounds in close ones, Garcia officially dropped him three times.
Didn't complete it since one of the judges had a draw. There was no draw. Ryan Garcia had won handily. He gave Haney a beating. Now that he's failed a drug test, I'm fucked off and legitimately furious.
Next, he was asked if he believed the accusations that Garcia had maintained were false were true.
He claims that it was staged and that money was exchanged, but listen, can you contact VADA, a drug testing organization, and allow them to force you to do a test? Not in my opinion. They join VADA to be ranked by the WBC, not because they require a ranking as a world-class athlete.
While Eddie Hearn has disclosed the action Haney wants to be done against his former opponent, Garcia has persisted in claiming his innocence.
