Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, the head coach of Asante Kotoko, has urged players in the Ghana Premier League to step up their work ethic to be called up to the Black Stars.

Following his team's Sunday loss to Great Olympics in the Matchday 32 games of the 2023–24 Ghana Premier League, Narteh Ogum issued this appeal.

Only one local player, Frederick Asare, made Otto Addo's 26-man team for the forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.

"We have quality in the league; individual players are very good, but it all depends on the coach who is making the call-ups," Narteh Ogum stated in response to the matter in an interview.

"As coaches, we need to work harder and as players, they also need to work harder so that moving on more players will be called up to join the Black Stars," he stated.

On June 6, Ghana takes on Mali in Bamako, and on June 10, Ghana takes on CAR at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. For the fifth time, the Black Stars are trying to earn a spot in the FIFA World Cup.
